God’s Intervention Through Our Slavery
As people of African descent, our ancestors shared with the Jewish people the horrors of being enslaved. It was a slavery that was all invasive, one that robbed them of their dignity and personhood. How were they able to survive? It was and still because the Lord was on our side. “If it had not been for the Lord on my side-Where would I be?” (Helen Baylor) Moses never credited the survival and deliverance of his ancestors from the horrors of slavery, to their toughness, ingenuity, or wisdom but, always to the fact of God’s intervention. So should we! God was and is still on our side. Be careful, “Lest we stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee.” (James W. Johnson) Read: Deuteronomy 6:10, Deuteronomy 6:13, Deuteronomy 32:12
